Extra details for Lens Options
Our Standard Lens choice for all prescription orders is a CR39 (1.5index) lens for smaller prescriptions or 1.6 slightly thinner lenses for slightly stronger prescriptions. These lenses are widely used by most opticians, and will generally serve prescriptions ranging from +/-0.25 to +/- 2.00. However, we also include anti-reflection coating, scratch resistant coating and UV protection free of charge. If you would prefer not to have any of these options just untick the relevant checkbox when selecting your lens options.
UV and Sun tint
The UV filter helps to protect your eyes from damage that can be caused by harmful UV rays from the Sun. This in turn will reduce eye strain. A sun tint will help to soften the glare caused by bright sunlight.
Note: A sun tint is not suitable for night driving.
Hard Coat
This coating, although not scratch-proof, will reduce small surface abrasions to your lenses, ensuring your vision remains clear. When looked after properly, the hard coat will help your lenses to last longer.
Anti-Reflective Coating
The AR coating reduces reflections from the surface of your lenses caused by artificial lights. This will reduce eyestrain and glare when night driving or using screens in office environments. By absorbing reflections, the AR coating will enable people to see your eyes more clearly behind your glasses.
Thin and Light 1.67 Lenses
The GOTD Optometrist recommends 1.67 high index lenses for prescriptions above +/- 2.50. These lenses reduce thickness by up to 40%. This will make your lenses look better and less bulky, as well as reducing the weight of your frame on your nose.
Note: This option includes anti-reflective coating
Thin and Light 1.74 Lenses
The GOTD Optometrist recommends 1.74 high index lenses for prescriptions +/-4.00. These lenses are the thinnest and lightest plastic lenses available. They reduce lens thickness by up to 50% and significantly reduce they way your eyes are distorted behind the lens (how big or small your glasses make your eyes look).
Note: This option includes anti-reflective coating
Digital Device Protection
Blue light radiation is emitted from most digital devices including phones, tablets and computers. In prolonged doses, this radiation can cause eyestrain, headaches and insomnia. Digital Device Protection is recommended if you spend long periods on digital devices to absorb the blue light radiation. A popular option for those who do not require a prescription.
Varifocal Lenses
Varifocal lenses are recommended for people who require more than one prescription for different distances, in other words you have a reading and intermediate prescription which is different to your distance prescription. This will be notable on your prescription if you have a reading 'ADD'. Unlike bifocals, these lenses do not have a line on the lens so look like a regular pair of glasses, but will enable you to have clear vision at near distance (for reading), intermediate distance (for computers) and far distance (general vision). You may be used to being offered different types of varifocal lens but you needn't worry about too many choices, as our varifocal is of the highest quality and offers the widest field of view.
Bifocal Lenses
Bifocal lenses like varifocals are recommended for people who require different prescriptions for different distances. However, they only provide vision for near distance for tasks like reading or far distance for general vision. Bifocals are not recommended for people who do tasks at an intermediate distance like using a computer. Bifocal lenses have a visible segment on the lens to separate the near and distance zones. Our bifocal is a standard D shape.
